MAKE NEW: The Expanding Gospel Movement Among Youth in Cambodia

CRM / Novo is a band of creative missionaries; determined, innovative, and responsive to the Spirit. We are sent to multiply movements of the gospel and to mobilize the church for mission. In everything we do, our hearts look forward to the day when all will be made new. Novo, it means ‘to make new.’

One of the stories that exemplifies this vision to multiply movements in creative ways, featured in CRM / Novo’s introduction video (see below), is a gospel movement in Asia: In Cambodia, when our staff saw that children living on the street loved to worship, they started a worship school. Now these youth have become musicians and leaders, bringing hope to the places they call home.

CRM / Novo shared a special video about this worship movement on the streets of Cambodia in 2017, but the movement didn’t stop there. It has expanded to other cities and flowed into a new youth church plant, where some of these youth are leaders.

MAKE NEW: The Thief Who Brought His Neighborhood to Jesus

CRM / Novo is a band of creative missionaries; determined, innovative, and responsive to the Spirit. We are sent to multiply movements of the gospel and to mobilize the church for mission. In everything we do, our hearts look forward to the day when all will be made new. Novo, it means ‘to make new.’

One beautiful example shared in our CRM / Novo introduction video (see below) is from South Africa: a thief who turned to Jesus went door-to-door asking forgiveness. Now he’s mentoring young men in his township, making disciples among those he previously stole from.

"The Energy Has Changed": A Movemental Difference Through Prayer in L.A.

Last year I stepped into a new role as CRM’s Prime Intercession team leader. CRM has identified prayer as “critical in laying the foundation and creating the conditions for a movement to launch and thrive”; the name Prime conveys this unique and essential role of preparation.

Leading the Prime Intercession Team has helped me to see obstacles as opportunities to storm heaven for Kingdom breakthrough. In the past months, my team has seen some exciting breakthroughs in response to our prayers. Here's one remarkable example.

When God Answers Prayer: A Miracle in the Refugee Camps of Lebanon

Aminah* fled to Lebanon with her family (her husband Kamal* and their five children) about eight months ago to escape the events of the war in Syria. I visited them and attended to their need of food by providing food parcels for the family over the coming visits. Through NEO and a partner church, we were able to provide help in paying rent and other necessities for them. I started building a relationship with them by visiting them on a monthly basis. I would speak to them about Jesus and his love during these visits. I introduced Christ as a personal savior and what he had done in my life as I followed him.

Blessed by Listening to the Holy Spirit: A Vignette From World Wide Conference

It was the final night of the World Wide Conference and worship was pushing well into the night. Around 11 pm, I stood up to head to my room when I suddenly felt the Spirit draw my attention to a girl across the room and say, "Go pray for her." I paused for a moment. I was tired. My body wanted rest. This girl was a stranger. And I wasn't getting a sense of what I might pray for her.

In that moment I had a choice. I could not deny I felt a tug at my spirit. I felt free to make my choice, but I knew that if I obeyed, I would probably be blessed to see God do something.

Where There Is War, Peace: A Kingdom Reconciliation Moment at Conference

At World Wide Conference, God was at work in every dimension, not just in teaching and worship, but even in our times of play. CRM staff Lyle Thomas, who lives in Russia, shared details of what happened the last morning of Conference and why it was such a significant Kingdom moment:

Fierce Shepherds Needed: Leading Kids From Many Nations to Jesus

Anyone that knows me knows that I have a few rules I live by—carry your own weight, work hard, care for the poor, love Jesus and do not mess with my children. I want my kids to know that I will fight hard for them at all cost. I am sure if you asked them, they would tell you stories of me embarrassing them, marching into the school office or calling their teacher or telling the 5-year-old diva in the park to stop flirting with my kindergartener son. Bottom line—don’t mess with my kids and we will be good. But mess with them, and it is on!

Project Saturation Novi Sad: Preparation for Gospel Movement

There’s a new initiative that has kicked off in CRM and I am excited to be a part of it. What is this initiative, called PRIME? The leaders describe it like this:

PRIME Movemental Prayer Initiative
Prime (verb): to make ready for use or action

CRM has identified prayer as “critical in laying the foundation and creating the conditions for a movement to launch and thrive”—the name Prime conveys this unique and essential role of preparation. This initiative catalyzes CRM teams into a posture and position strategically primed to launch and sustain the gospel movements we long to see.

The initiative has five different streams or teams: Worship, Prophetic, Strategic, Intercession, and Healing. Each team has people from all different branches of our organization. Each “team” gathers regularly via video conference calls that span 12+ time zones. We also have a workspace online where we can share messages, pictures, and documents.

Letting New Leaders Carry the Vision

“What happens if you get hit by a bus tomorrow? Who can carry your vision for gospel movement among the youth in Phnom Penh?”

When a life coach asked me this question, it sparked a desire to truly become a leader who can multiply a movement. Since then, I have been on a steep learning curve, participating in a global peer-learning cohort for multiplying leaders, inviting strategic minds to speak into what I am trying to launch, and spending time with global leaders from whom I can glean.

Designed for a Purpose: Discovering Our Why as We Go [Video]

Before she left for Cambodia, we asked Olivia why she felt compelled to go (the video below is her response). Now, at the end of her first year of ministry, we asked her to describe her calling again.

Watch her pre-field thoughts on calling:

God has really given me a particular passion for multi-ethnicity and different cultures, language, and people groups—and given me a real burden for the poor. So, God has called me to do both of those things: to care about the poor and the marginalized, build relationships with them and love them, in cross-cultural contexts. So I’ll be moving to Cambodia and doing just that—seeking to love my neighbor.
